
Nursing Assistant I/II 13N Neurology Part-Time Night Shift

Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, Nursing Assistants provide empathic care to patients, their families, and visitors with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, they communicate face‑to‑face with patients and visitors to convey information about treatment procedures and visitor hours, and encourage and support patients who may be despondent or apprehensive.
Duties
Change simple dressings and give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rate.
Attend to daily living activities, personal and hygienic needs to maintain a comfortable clinical environment.
Assist patients with feeding to ensure appropriate nourishment.
Bathe, dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of patients.
Maintain patients' rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to keep the facility clean, sanitary, and orderly.
Qualifications
Possession of, or ability to acquire, the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.
One year of satisfactory full‑time experience in simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision.
Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved program, one year of patient care experience, and a high school diploma or GED.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
Submit electronic reference checks with a minimum of three professional references.
Complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s).
Benefits
Anticipated pay range is $xxx–$xxx per year. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Supplemental pay may include: location pay, night shift differential, evening shift differential, inconvenience pay, and geographic pay.
