Job Description – Nursing Assistant I/II MICU Full Time Nights

Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, Nursing Assistants provide empathic care to patients, their families, and visitors with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants communicate frequently with those in care and their visitors to convey information on treatment procedures and visitation hours. They also encourage and support those who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Duties

Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.

Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.

Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.

Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rate.

Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs to maintain an atmosphere conducive to treatment and comfortable for persons in care.

Feed persons requiring assistance to assure appropriate nourishment.

Bathe, dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.

Maintain persons in care rights, dignity, and confidentiality.

Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties as related to direct care, ensuring the clinical facility is clean, sanitary, orderly, and properly supplied.

Qualifications
Required:

One year of satisfactory full‑time experience in providing simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision.

Preferred:

NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved licensed program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School diploma or GED.

Pre‑Employment Requirements

Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services.

Complete electronic reference checks with a minimum of three professional references.

Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.

Meet regulatory screening requirements.

Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s) and/or certificate(s).
