Grounds Crew Leader

Job Description
Non-exempt position reporting to Grounds Maintenance and Equipment Foreman. Grade 65, 12‑month term.
Qualifications
High school graduate with 5 years of experience in equipment operation and grounds maintenance, including planting trees and shrubs. Must possess a valid driver’s license, be self‑motivated, possess strong leadership skills, and be proactive in planning ahead and problem‑solving. Must assist foreman to minimize disruptions, errors, and risks, keeping projects on‑task, within budget, and on‑time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Is crew leader for grounds crew and large-scale jobs.
Plan and prepare building landscapes, walkways, and placement of trees and shrubs.
Supervise equipment operators and grounds personnel in removal of trees, mowing grass, and other duties assigned.
Prepare requisitions for supplies, material, and equipment.
Have knowledge of horticulture principles.
Adjust and repair equipment as needed.
Manage a single crew and tailor crew composition to optimize effectiveness and efficiency.
Know safety hazards, rules, regulations, and implement safety precautions.
Act as grounds foreman in foreman’s absence.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and stocked equipment trailer.
Assist with training team members to ensure proper procedures and quality of work.
Assist foreman with forecasting equipment, labor, and material needs to ensure efficient production.
Serve as a team player and role model, demonstrating commitment to quality improvement and core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer focus, and valuing diversity.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Perform medium/heavy lifting, exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally.
Lift 50 lbs.
Work in outdoor environments, heat or cold.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
