Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to assist and provide backup in the planning, installation, support, and maintenance of the major administrative computer applications for the University, particularly as they pertain to PeopleSoft Administrative system support and data protection (backup/recovery/disaster recovery). Provide administrative support and technical guidance for Telecommunications systems and applications. Additionally, provide systems administration support for campus database software and servers, and backup DBA support.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as administrator for the campus Oracle database servers and software—monitor and improve performance of the Oracle environment and databases by proactively monitoring server resources. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and non‑production problems.

Systems Administration for Linux and Windows servers and services—write, maintain, and document efficient, technically complex systems programs in support of operations. Monitor computer performance. Respond to production issues.

Perform departmental duties for database administration/PeopleSoft administration—monitor and maintain performance of all supported databases. Perform database clones. Provide expertise to application programmers/analysts in functional prototyping and testing of applications as related to database access and performance.

System Administration for Backup/Data Protection System—manage SLAs and protection of servers, databases, and other objects. Generate reports and monitor backups and storage capacity. Create and maintain internal documentation.

Administration and Technical Support for Telecommunications Systems and Applications—update and maintain proprietary tele‑management databases and applications. Update data in database such as charge types, vendor info and report recipients using tools such as TOAD or SQL Developer.

Provide technical assistance, consulting, and training for other technical staff—participate in University meetings to provide technical expertise and advice. Work with customers on supported services to ensure consistent delivery service.

Communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non‑technical individuals within a culturally diverse campus environment. Maintain a professional demeanor. Maintain IT professional standards of anonymity for data that resides on campus servers and computer systems.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree related to computing or equivalent and two years of relevant experience required.

Preferred:

Progressively responsible systems administration experience in both Windows and Linux.

Experience administering Windows Server and Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server in a virtual environment.

Familiarity with Active Directory domains and organizational units.

Ability to use approved scripting languages when necessary.

One year experience maintaining Oracle database software.

The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to rapidly analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex system issues while maintaining a high level of technical expertise in a continually evolving environment. They learn quickly, adapt to new technologies with ease, and consistently stay ahead of industry changes. In addition, they possess strong, hands‑on knowledge in the installation, configuration, and patching of currently supported Oracle DBMS versions, ensuring stable, secure, and optimized database operations.

Physical Summary
Sedentary work —involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).
