SUMMARY
Teaches one or more subjects to students with disabilities in secondary schools and serves as an IEP case manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
Instruct students using lectures, demonstrations, audiovisual aids, and supplemental materials.
Prepare course objectives and outlines following curriculum guidelines or state/school requirements.
Assign lessons and correct homework.
Administer tests to evaluate student progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents.
Keep attendance records and maintain discipline in the classroom.
Meet with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participate in faculty, professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
Perform related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting students with course selection, and counseling on adjustment and academic problems.
Comply with school and board policies and regulations.
Demonstrate professional growth and effective use of instructional and planning time.
Ensure prompt and accurate completion of required records and reports.
Use out‑of‑class assignments to support instructional objectives when appropriate.
Differentiate instruction to provide varied learning experiences so all students can succeed.
Assist with after‑school events and supervise students during class change, lunch duty, and after‑school events.
Assume responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
Maintain a neat, safe environment for students under your care.
Demonstrate knowledge of the subject taught.
Other duties assigned by the Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, candidates must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Valid certification meeting State requirements with the specific endorsement(s) for the assigned subject area.
Good health with no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps; fitness to teach may be required by a qualified physician.
Teaching experience acceptable and rated appropriately.
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four‑year accredited college or university.
Highly qualified, possessing an active Virginia Teaching License with appropriate endorsement(s).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Command of Standard English, both spoken and written.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals.
Ability to write reports and present information effectively to teachers, parents, students, and the public.
MATH SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, areas, circumferences, and volumes.
Application of basic algebra and geometry concepts.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The duties require standing regularly and occasional walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level is usually moderate.
EVALUATION
Performance evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on personnel evaluation.
