Purpose Statement
The Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician's responsibility is to perform basic mechanical, electrical, and electronic repair and preventive maintenance on plant equipment, building and structure of the facility. This technician will also be trained to oversee some refrigeration aspects of the plant.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
Observe all OSHA and facility safety rules and regulations including use of personal protective equipment.
Follow all established Good Manufacturing Practices, including maintaining an orderly and clean work area.
Troubleshooting and diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electrical failures.
Assure preventive maintenance program is conducted on plant equipment, building and structures of the plant.
Provide emergency / unscheduled repairs of production equipment in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and services.
Duties may involve: pipe fitting, insulating, welding, carpentry, installing, aligning and balancing new equipment/structures and repairing buildings, floors, freezers or stairs, etc.
Order parts and frequently purchase and pick up required parts, machines, etc.
Required to regularly stand, reach, bend, move about the facility
Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth vision.
Hearing ability to meet manufacturing facility safety requirements.
Using common maintenance hand tools and specialty tools to repair and maintain equipment
Applies all safe work practices and uses all personal safety equipment required in performing tasks to assure his/her own safety and that of co-workers; works in a safe manner at all times; performs tasks within guidelines of good maintenance techniques and applicable codes.
Applies all product safety and quality requirements associated with the process at assigned positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
High school diploma or GED required - Technical School graduate preferred
Minimum 3 years "hands-on" experience in manufacturing maintenance environment
Experience in HVAC a plus
Must be able to read, write and speak English
A high degree of judgement is required for this job.
Knowledge of power and hand tools
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Must be able to communicate in a professional manner with all associate levels at the plant as mechanics may perform training for new acquired equipment
