
Paraprofessional, ELL - Newberry Community School

Newberry Community School is seeking a Paraprofessional, ELL to provide effective assistance to English Language Learners, teachers, parents, and staff in instructional and schoolwide activities. This position supports student learning by assisting with instruction, translation, and classroom management.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Completion of a minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution; or passing score on an approved ParaPro Assessment.
Ability to speak and write Spanish fluently.
Experience working with children, preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive manner
Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish, orally and in writing
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Knowledge of technology and ability to apply it to assigned responsibilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, staff, and administrators
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Translate written school documents, letters, notes, and instructional materials from English to Spanish
Assist teachers in preparing materials and equipment for instructional activities, including copying, collating, and distributing materials
Provide instructional assistance as planned by the teacher
Review lesson plans and anticipate needed supplies and materials
Lead small group activities under teacher direction
Assist in adapting curriculum to meet student needs
Maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment
Manage computer-assisted instruction
Provide student supervision as assigned
Assist in maintaining the security of records, materials, and equipment
Support classroom management and enforcement of rules
Assist with assessing student progress, including proctoring tests, grading, and recordkeeping
Perform clerical and basic bookkeeping duties as assignedServe on school committees as appropriate
Adhere to all safety standards
Attend staff meetings and required trainings
Follow Board policies and departmental procedures
Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the public using tact and good judgment
Identify and report potential issues or areas for improvement
Demonstrate initiative and reliability in assigned duties
Support school goals and priorities
Work effectively as part of a team
Maintain confidentiality
Manage time efficiently
Maintain professional and ethical standards
Participate in training and cross-training opportunities
Prepare required reports and maintain accurate records
Represent the school in a positive and professional manner
Respond to inquiries in a timely manner
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform light work, including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects
Terms of Employment
Salary and benefits are provided in accordance with the Board’s approved salary schedule.
10-month position
Length of the work year and hours of employment are established by the Board
