Our Sioux Falls, SD team is growing, with an in-office opportunity for a Staff Accountant.

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining financial accuracy while supporting gross margin integrity and inventory control. This position is responsible for general ledger activities, month‑end close, inventory accounting, and detailed margin analysis. The ideal candidate understands how operational decisions impact profitability and works proactively to identify risks and improvement opportunities.

Here’s what you’ll get to do:

1. Month-End Close & General Ledger

Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, reserves, inventory adjustments, allocations)

Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations with a focus on inventory, COGS, and related reserves

Maintain clear and audit‑ready supporting documentation

Ensure proper revenue and cost recognition in accordance with GAAP

2. Gross Margin Analysis & Cost Accounting

Prepare monthly gross margin reporting by product line, channel, and customer

Analyze price, volume, and cost variances

Identify margin erosion trends and root causes (freight, returns, rebates, discounting, cost increases, etc.)

Assist in maintaining standard costs and reviewing bill of materials accuracy

Monitor landed cost components (freight, duty, tariffs, warranty accruals)

Support pricing analysis and profitability modeling

Partner with operations and sales teams to improve margin performance

3. Inventory Management & Controls

Reconcile inventory subledger to general ledger monthly

Assist with inventory reserve analysis (excess, obsolete, slow‑moving)

Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs

Monitor inventory turnover, aging, and shrink trends

Review adjustments for accuracy and proper authorization

Assist in developing reporting to improve working capital management

Analyze inventory carrying costs and support improvement initiatives

4. Financial Reporting & Analysis

Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements

Support budget vs. actual and prior‑year variance analysis

Provide margin and inventory insights to leadership

Prepare ad hoc profitability and cost analysis

5. Audit & Compliance

Support annual review/audit with detailed inventory and margin documentation

Ensure GAAP compliance for revenue recognition, inventory valuation, and cost accounting

Maintain internal controls around inventory and COGS

6. Process Improvement

Identify automation opportunities within ERP and reporting tools

Improve reporting visibility around gross margin drivers

Support ERP enhancements related to costing and inventory

Participate in cross‑functional initiatives to strengthen financial discipline

This is what will get you noticed:

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

2–4 years of accounting experience preferred (inventory or manufacturing environment strongly preferred)

CPA track or CMA a plus

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of GAAP, particularly inventory and revenue recognition

Experience with standard costing and margin analysis

Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookup functions, data analysis)

ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, etc.)

Ability to analyze large data sets and extract actionable insights
