Law Clerk
The Litigation Support Team at Leidos, supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC, seeks a Law Clerk to perform litigation support duties. This opportunity allows you to contribute your experience to the DOJ’s mission.
Responsibilities
Work under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager.
Perform complex legal research for the trial staff.
Assist in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc.
Assist in drafting Program decisions; in many claims the Program decision sets the foundation for subsequent administrative and judicial review.
Review documents for relevance and privilege.
Conduct research in applicable statutory, regulatory, and case law.
Discern relevant issues in complex fact patterns.
Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation.
Basic Qualifications
Law degree, or currently attending an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience (or equivalent level of education may be substituted).
Sound knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Hands‑on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (e.g., document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
Hands‑on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Consistent ability to deliver high‑quality work under extreme pressure.
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a government and/or litigation support environment.
Experience with Relativity (should be referenced within resume if applicable).
Trial experience.
Experience or interest in informal adjudications under an agency’s enabling act and regulations.
Experience handling a large volume of cases or claims.
Current or active clearance.
The pay for this position is $38.77 per hour and the position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum requirements.
