
Manager, Substation Construction Maintenance

Basic Purpose
Responsible for establishing Substation Construction and Maintenance philosophy, standards and procedures for supervisors, inspectors, administrators, trainers, groundsmen and construction and maintenance crews. Supervises all personnel and responsible for managing construction costs and schedule by efficiently scheduling crews and interfacing with Engineering, Project Management and various construction departments.
Ensures safe, efficient, effective, and courteous service to our customers who depend on a reliable supply of electricity. Effective leadership of this area is vital to the company’s ability to provide quality customer services, as well as maintain and promote improved customer relations, understanding and positive, lasting impressions. Participates in the design engineering and project management activities associated with substation construction and maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
Develops and ensures compliance, consistency and standardization of construction activity philosophy throughout NV Energy’s service territories.
Prioritizes and schedules the capital, routine and emergency work efforts of a staff of supervisors, electricians, administrators, trainers, groundsmen and other construction related employees to accomplish capital and O&M objectives.
Projects managers for substation capital maintenance budget items.
Provides supervision, direction and technical assistance to ensure workable solutions for non-standard problems.
Provides emergency support on construction and maintenance issues and troubleshoot construction problems as necessary.
Provides feedback to engineering and Management on Substation issues to facilitate efficient and economic process improvement, cost effective construction decisions, etc.
Ensures the substation construction and maintenance group is properly staffed, and personnel are properly trained, supported and equipped to safely accomplish departmental objectives. Uses contract support as necessary to meet departmental commitments.
Represents the Company internally and externally on any construction issues; serves as an expert witness as required for litigation and other legal proceedings.
Accountable for commissioning capital projects averaging $25 to $50 million per year on schedule.
Leads and provides safety training meetings, identifies and provides applicable training to employees, ensures all employees maintain certifications to perform work functions.
Provides substation safety awareness training to contractor’s employees that supplement department crews.
Performs related duties as assigned.
