Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Accounting Associate, interprets data arising from dental treatments.
Requires detailed knowledge of dental procedures and codes.
Reviews patient balances, analyzes the make‑up of the balance, and communicates this to the patient; accepts payments and applies them to the patient record.
Analyzes patients’ accounts by interpreting coding in accordance with complex reimbursement policies and coordination of benefits.
Works with third‑party payers including all commercial insurance carriers and Medicaid.
Analyzes and reconciles patient accounts; investigates discrepancies and takes appropriate corrective action.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Any one or combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the categories below:
College coursework in a health‑related field, business administration/management, human resource management, or closely related fields (30 semester hours equals one (1) year).
Associates Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months.
Work experience in a healthcare environment working with medical claims, denials, rejections, referrals, and prior authorizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Ability to evaluate information to determine compliance with standards, laws & regulatory standards.
Ability to apply individual judgment to determine if events or processes comply with laws, regulations or standards.
Willingness to take on responsibilities & challenges; adaptability & flexibility when required.
Basic understanding of medical or insurance billing and medical terminology.
Ability to use computers and computer systems.
Knowledge of the English language including spelling, composition and grammar.
Dependability, attention to detail, integrity, stress tolerance, self‑control and concern for others.
Basic arithmetic skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals and percentages.
Additional Information
Illinois Residency Requirement: Must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date.
