Job Summary
Manager, Plant Protection and Emergency Services: provides guidance, oversight, and management of the site’s emergency management and loss‑prevention programs for the Durham Hilleman, BCG and Teknika facilities.
Works with cross‑functional teams to operate and maintain the emergency management organization and its systems, ensuring compliance with security, emergency preparedness, response regulations, fire and life‑safety codes, and all required loss‑prevention programs.
Prepares and maintains site compliance with NFPA, OSHA, EPA, DHS, GSE, local standards and develops procedures, preventative‑maintenance plans and processes to ensure robust programs.
Oversees the Emergency Response team and Compliance Technicians, reporting to the Site Services Lead.
Responsibilities
Provide direction and leadership for Compliance Technicians, Emergency Response functions, and volunteers.
Manage the emergency response team (full time and volunteers) for fire, hazmat, rescue, medical and security functions, including training, equipment and tactical response.
Prioritize emergency‑management priorities aligned with the site strategic plans identified by the Site Services Lead.
Develop and maintain best internal practices and external benchmarks to provide a world‑class organization.
Organize and operate a complete program for all phases of emergency response and security services, including procedures, personnel, equipment, preventative‑maintenance (PM) programs and training.
Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete and updated.
Ensure training and skill‑level compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, NFPA 472 and DOT 49 CFR 172.700 for hazmat; OSHA 29 CFR 1910.156, NFPA 1001, 1002 for firefighters; OSHA 29 CFR 1926.50 and NFPA 450 for medical responders; and certification in CPR, First Aid and AED.
Manage the preventative‑maintenance program for life‑safety and loss‑prevention systems, ensuring PMs are accurate, complete and on time.
Partner with local municipalities and county emergency response organizations.
Collaborate with global Security and external partners to deliver and support all response needs for the site.
Leverage relationships with key customers and organizational leadership to support business needs and key objectives.
Operate independently under limited supervision.
Qualifications – Required
High School Diploma or GED.
10 years combined experience in Asset Protection, Security, Fire Life‑Safety Systems or Firefighting.
Current Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Responder NC certification or National Registry.
Fire Fighter I & II or North Carolina Fire Fighter certification.
Fire Instructor I.
Fire Officer I.
Hazmat Responder Level 1.
Willingness to work shift, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications – Desired
Firefighter I & II, Hazmat Operations or Technician, NC EMT, Confined Space Rescue, High Angle Rescue.
Certification in NFPA 25, NICET II, NC Limited Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician, Hazmat Technician.
Ability to coach and develop work teams; operate effectively in high‑stress indoor/outdoor environments; strong leadership, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
