Government Relations Manager
Location: 1001 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC 20004. This role requires associates to be in-office 3-5 days per week at our Washington, DC location, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. The Government Relations Manager is responsible for advocating enterprise and Federal specific legislative policies and positions to support business goals and objectives before U.S. Congress, focusing on House and Senate Democrats and their staff.
How You Will Make an Impact
Establish and maintain strong and positive relationships with federal legislators and their staff.
Collaborate with all functional areas within Public Affairs, internal partners (Legal, Corporate Communications, and Compliance), and consult with business units to inform and support business planning processes.
Support the development and execution of strategies to advocate the Company’s federal legislative positions to advance business goals and objectives.
Assist in developing and carrying out tactics and strategies to influence trade associations, coalitions, and other advocacy organizations.
Collaborate with other members of the Federal Affairs teams, including External Affairs and PAC to support and enhance advocacy initiatives.
Develop and deliver internal and external written and oral presentations on behalf of the Company.
Write and develop narrative content on Congressional Affairs activities for internal and external audiences.
Support all elements of the Elevance Health PAC and compliance related operations, as needed.
Provide project management and other support, as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field; 5 years of legislative, regulatory, political, public affairs or industry experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences
Concise, precise, and motivating verbal and written communication skills demonstrated through ability to influence and persuade.
Experience writing formal communications for executive-level audiences.
Strong organizational and interpersonal team-based skills with ability to handle negotiation and conflict resolution.
Mastery of Microsoft Office products, most notably Teams, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
Bias for action and self-motivation to meet and exceed expectations.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and attention to detail skills.
Ability to build and sustain both internal and external professional relationships through collaboration.
Ability to interact confidently with senior internal and external stakeholders, and subject matter experts while being adept and comfortable with influencing decision-making.
Willingness to learn complex issues relating to healthcare policy and business operations.
High degree of self-awareness, trust, and empathy, with a positive, professional, and solution-oriented attitude.
Salary range for this position is $109,112 to $163,668.
