Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer II for our Bridgeton, MO facility. This position is based out of our Bridgeton facility and will have the option to work an in person or hybrid schedule. The Systems Safety Engineer will assist in leading contractual and rapid prototyping programs in accordance with the latest version of MIL-STD-882, Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) 385-17, and applicable standards per government direction. This candidate is responsible for assisting with a safety assignment throughout a program’s life cycle and collaborating with various disciplines.

Job Responsibilities
Documentation:

Capture safety analysis and findings in the form of the following government deliverables:

System Safety Program Plan (SSPP)

Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA)

Safety Assessment Report (SAR)

Software Systems Level of Rigor (LOR)

Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

Communicate with and flow-down required safety deliverables with subcontractors

Present findings and propose solutions leading to risk mitigation or issue remediation

Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable

Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services

Attend classified and unclassified test events and discuss safety measures between partner companies and customers

Compliance:

Ensure systems are designed, operated, and maintained safely, complying with relevant regulations and standards to minimize risk.

Follow the methodologies within MIL-STD-882E or other applicable government standards

Review engineering changes or mishaps and support implementation efforts

Assess and track mitigation of software and firmware related hazards

Work with other engineering disciplines to ensure the customer needs are met

Execute the systems engineering process including architectural design, system integration, and verification and validation.

Additional Responsibilities:

Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems

Report progress and status regularly

Develop prototypes to retire key development risks

Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments

Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

Participate in preparation of less-complex proposals

May provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel

Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field, and a minimum of 2 years of system safety engineering experience

Proficient in technical writing to assist with the preparation of reports of complex systems.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products

Ability to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance

Travel (approximately 20%) to support program events (tests, program reviews, etc.) and training activities

Ability to work independently

Ability to work multiple programs

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $72,654.00/year – $94,450.00/year for the state of Illinois. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable).
