Job Summary
Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full‑time Principal Test Engineer – Systems for our Bridgeton, MO facility. The Principal Test Engineer must have expertise in the design, development, analysis, documentation, and support of the testing of complex products, systems, or subsystems. The candidate must determine the optimal testing process to ensure the product meets applicable requirements and specifications. The selected candidate will collaborate with other engineering disciplines and apply test engineering expertise to verify systems and subsystems across multiple technology areas.
Job Responsibilities
Involved with the design and development of test programs to measure the functionality and integrity of products and services. Write test procedures and protocols to assess product reliability and evaluate the ability of products to meet performance standards and specifications. Debug test hardware and software.
Responsible for driving technology and completion of one or more complex activities on time and within budget.
Design, develop, analyze, document, and support testing of complex products, systems, or subsystems.
Complete a technical project independently.
Mentor and coach other engineers.
Review customer specifications and requirements, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key variable.
Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments.
Document component and subsystem specifications and material requirements.
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services.
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
Develop prototypes to retire key development risks.
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management, and the customer as required.
Participate heavily in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals.
Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress.
Support, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings.
Mentor and coach the work of others as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of eight years of relevant experience.
Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge.
Significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines.
Understanding and ability to design and perform environmental testing based on MIL‑STD‑810G, MIL‑STD‑461E, or equivalent.
Systems hardware and software testing experience.
Experience with precision test, measurement devices, and sensor selection.
Excellent analytical and written and verbal communication skills.
Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to work well in a team environment as well as independently with little day‑to‑day guidance.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to lead a technical group independently.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $104,295.00 per year – $140,799.00 per year for the state of Illinois.
In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for annual performance‑based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay for non‑exempt employees.
