
Road Supervisor - Tri Delta Transit

The Road Supervisor is responsible for safely monitoring vehicle operations and ensuring operators provide safe, reliable, and friendly transportation to customers. The role involves supervising operators, recommending hiring or training, evaluating performance, allocating work, and resolving issues. The supervisor may assist with organizing and conducting classroom and behind‑the‑wheel training sessions.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid California Commercial Driver’s License (Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements)
Current Verification of Transit Training (VTT) certificate before participating in revenue service
Current driver's record verifying an acceptable driving record
At least 2 years of experience as a full‑time operator
Knowledge of project‑specific vehicles, components, and data/communications systems
Knowledge of state and federal regulations and corporate safety programs and policies
Strong customer service attitude
Ability to read, write, and speak English
Ability to communicate effectively with all departments
Ability to work independently and objectively
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to de‑escalate situations with passengers, employees, and the general public

Responsibilities
Oversee driver and vehicle operations, enhance customer service, and support drivers during revenue service
Respond to accidents or incidents, monitor bus stop conditions, assess operating conditions and on‑time performance, and conduct passenger counts or surveys
Maintain on‑street real‑time signage functionality and report any malfunctions to ECCTA staff in writing immediately
Complete Keolis operator, Reasonable Suspicion, and Customer Service trainings in accordance with program goals
Assist across the service area based on business needs, including high‑ridership locations such as Antioch BART, Pittsburg‑Bay Point BART, and Los Medanos College Pittsburg Campus during peak service times
Conduct a minimum of 30 ride‑alongs or road observations per month to promote safe driving and ensure compliance with operational policies
Document all observations formally and submit documentation to ECCTA upon request
Serve as first‑line response for incidents and accidents, following all reporting policies and procedures, and remain flexible with schedule, split shifts, weekends, and holidays
Monitor operators to ensure compliance with uniform, equipment, licensing, and certification standards
Assist dispatch staff with vehicle change‑outs in the field
Provide feedback on safety and performance, identify potential hazards, and recommend procedural improvements
Follow company safety and operational rules and procedures
Handle special event management and monitor pull‑outs and pull‑ins
Inspect vehicles for damage and compliance with safety standards, coach employees using onboard surveillance technology, and assist when operating a vehicle or dispatch service in emergencies
Support operations at transfer centers and high‑volume locations to ensure smooth service delivery
Investigate passenger concerns, enforce policies, and maintain driver group safety performance
Deliver regular driver scorecards and coach drivers for continual improvement
Act as liaison between drivers and other departments, building positive relationships and addressing performance issues
Training
Provide behind‑the‑wheel training for new operators and trainees
Conduct onboard evaluations and in‑service training according to schedule and/or need
Provide additional BTW training as directed
Evaluate new operator driving skills using checklists and evaluation forms
Serve as a role model and mentor to new operators
Report safe and unsafe acts or conditions to management
Provide training‑related feedback to the Safety Manager, Assistant General Manager, Training Manager, and other relevant staff
Assist the training department in identifying additional or refresher training needs based on trends within the employee base
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Most work is performed outside in extreme heat or cold, or in a vehicle, with exposure to loud noise and fumes associated with transit vehicles and facilities
Indoor work may occur in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities
Physical activities may include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials, with significant use of arms, repetitive hand‑wrist motion, and leg motions
The employee may spend extended periods sitting, driving, standing, walking, or looking at a computer screen or other electronic device
