Parks Maintenance Worker
Under general supervision, the Parks Maintenance Worker maintains parks including open spaces, athletic fields, facilities, and provides Brush Recycling Center support. Work involves assisting in the recycling center and performing various duties to support special events.
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of duties include maintaining grounds by mowing, edging, and trimming park areas; removing weeds and trimming flower beds; performing irrigation checks and repairs; replacing fences; repairing playground structures and cleaning trails. Additionally, the worker maintains athletic fields by trimming fields, ensuring proper watering, setting bases and shaving infields, aerating and applying chemicals for weeds and pests. Daily rounds of facilities involve picking up trash, emptying cans, and inspecting areas for damage/vandalism. Facilities maintenance includes painting/repairing/replacing. The worker also provides maintenance and repair for facilities and park amenities, shelters, buildings, playgrounds, etc. Yard facility maintenance may include repairing doors, gates, fence and minor repairs; washing windows; cleaning off driveways; cleaning and organizing; presenting a proper driveway. Assistance in the recycling center includes performing customer service duties. The worker pushes brush into grinder; loads mulch into compactors; moves mulch from underneath; throws lumber in dumpster. Paperwork associated with customer service and revenue is completed. Handling money for brush drop off and mulch sale charges at BRC is required. Operating heavy equipment, including a tub grinder and front end loader, to process and grind mulch is also part of the duties. Restrooms, driveways, and pavilions are cleaned, and windows are power washed. Maintenance and minor repairs of heavy equipment to keep them safe and operational are performed. Fluids in the vehicle are checked when necessary; air pressure in tires is maintained; filters, radiators, and vehicles are cleaned. Support for all tree planting, annual Christmas tree recycling and seedling giveaway, and tree cleanup work after storms are also required. Special event support includes setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties.
High school diploma or GED equivalent and six (6) months experience in general labor are required. Current Texas Class C driver license or the ability to obtain prior to employment is required. Additional certification or licenses may be required depending on assigned area.
