Payroll Clerk
The Payroll Clerk plays a key role in accurately processing weekly hourly payroll and supporting the payroll team with a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. This position organizes and prepares payroll reports, manages paycheck distribution, and helps maintain compliant and up-to-date payroll records. The role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers and data, and eager to contribute to an efficient and reliable payroll function.
Responsibilities
Process weekly hourly payroll accurately and on time, ensuring all earnings, deductions, and benefits are correctly applied.
Prepare detailed payroll reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
Maintain and update employee payroll records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Process termination checks in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Review and validate timecard entries to confirm hours worked and resolve discrepancies.
Support the payroll team with related clerical and administrative tasks to ensure overall accuracy and compliance.
Assist with payroll tax, reconciliation, and reporting activities as needed.
Contribute to payroll projects and other duties assigned to meet department needs.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 1+ years of payroll experience (preferred).
Experience with JD Edwards payroll software (preferred).
Hands-on experience with payroll processing and payroll accounting.
Ability to perform accurate data entry in a high-volume environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with payroll tax concepts and reporting requirements.
Ability to prepare and interpret payroll reports and reconciliations.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all payroll-related tasks.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll and employee information.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with certified payroll processes is beneficial.
Exposure to union payroll and related benefits administration is an advantage.
Background in payroll for construction or similar project-based environments is a plus.
Experience using modern payroll software systems and tools.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and responding to employee payroll inquiries.
Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role, working five days per week in an office environment. The position involves regular use of computers, payroll software such as JD Edwards, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, to manage data entry, reporting, and reconciliation tasks. The work environment is detail-focused and deadline-driven, with weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles requiring consistent accuracy and reliability. The Payroll Clerk collaborates closely with the payroll team and other internal departments to ensure smooth payroll operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $29.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
