Job Description
Under general supervision, performs a variety of support functions relating to the cleaning and maintenance of endoscopy equipment. The Endoscope Reprocessing Tech (ERT) will learn the anatomy and mechanical operation of the various scopes/equipment used in the department.
As a part of the team at Gastroenterology Associates, the ERT is responsible for participation in departmental programs for quality assessment and improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with goals of the company.
Responsibilities
Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care.
Cleans, disinfects, and calibrates scopes or other endoscopic equipment according to manufacturer recommendations, facility standards and infection control guidelines.
Performs testing and maintains efficacy of disinfecting solution, biological tests, and test strip quality controls.
Maintains and verifies compliance with all regulations.
Perform preventative maintenance checks and troubleshoots to ensure optimal functionality.
Coordinates repairs as needed with outside vendors, according to facility policy and procedure.
Maintains repair records and reports any issues regarding scope functioning to senior staff.
Ensures the availability of scopes as needed for procedure schedule.
Properly stores endoscopes and cleaning equipment after each use.
Maintains inventory of endoscopic and reprocessing equipment/supplies.
Proactively stays up to date on latest HLD/endoscope cleaning recommendations.
Qualifications / Education
Competent in endoscopy equipment anatomy and mechanical functions with on-the-job training.
Competent in operating all levels of high-level disinfection of equipment with on-the-job training.
Will be educated on current specifications and best practice/Olympus recommendations for scope processing.
Minimum Education: High School or G.E.D.
Scope reprocessing experience preferred but not required.
BLS required.
Physical Demands
Manual dexterity and mobility
Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, ability to lift 20 lbs.
