Overview
Building Automation Design Engineer – Siemens – Cypress, California
Pay range: $59,048 - $101,225 annually.
Responsibilities
Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for higher education and K–12 facilities, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high‑rise buildings, and lab facilities.
Demonstrate expertise in engineering and contracting processes with strong knowledge of submittal requirements and documentation standards.
Attend internal and external meetings to support opportunities and provide technical details to project designs; meetings may be held at project sites, contractor offices, or Siemens area offices.
Prepare design documents, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, system integration, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts.
Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third‑party integration devices (Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, Desigo, BACnet).
Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, etc.
Prepare engineering re‑estimates and coordinate with sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with the job scope.
Perform quality assurance; peer‑review engineering documents.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or state‑recognized GED.
5+ years of experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design.
Ability to travel up to 35%.
Demonstrated ability to design large and complex jobs with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations.
Proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Position will be hybrid with visits to the local area office and occasional travel for important team gatherings, project kick‑offs, strategic discussions, or training.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree.
7+ years of building automation (HVAC controls) design experience.
