Area Director of Finance Overview

Waterford Hotel Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Area Director of Finance to oversee financial operations for the Marriott Hartford Downtown, DoubleTree Hartford, and Sheraton Hartford Hotel at Bradley Airport. This on-property role, based in the Hartford market with regular travel between locations, will serve as a strategic partner to property leadership teams, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and profitability across the portfolio. The Area Director of Finance will provide leadership in all aspects of accounting, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis to support both short- and long-term business goals.

Responsibilities

Provide direct financial oversight and leadership for the on-property finance teams at all three hotels, ensuring consistency in processes, reporting, and controls.
Partner closely with General Managers and operational leaders to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, forecasting, and budget preparation.
Monitor and analyze financial performance across all properties, identifying risks and opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Ensure compliance with Waterford Hotel Group policies, GAAP, and all brand and ownership reporting requirements.
Review balance sheets, income statements, and monthly financial packages for accuracy and consistency.
Lead annual budget and capital planning processes for each property.
Maintain a strong on-property presence while traveling between hotels to support teams, audit financial practices, and drive accountability.
Mentor and develop property-level finance leaders, strengthening overall team capability and bench strength.
Partner with property leadership and HR on staffing, training, and succession planning within the finance function.
Serve as the primary liaison with ownership groups, auditors, and external stakeholders for all financial matters.
Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Minimum of 3-8 years of progressive hotel finance/accounting experience, including multi-property oversight.
Proven track record of leadership in hospitality finance with strong analytical, organizational, and mentoring skills.
Deep knowledge of GAAP, hotel accounting practices, and financial systems.
Experience with hotel brand financial reporting systems (Marriott, Hilton etc.) preferred.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with ownership groups.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide strategic financial insights to drive business results.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Ability to travel regularly to assigned properties within the region.
