Senior Biostatistician

The Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR) at the University of Southern California is seeking a

full‑time Applied Biostatistician

to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on advanced statistical analyses for longitudinal studies in aging and dementia, supporting collaborative research, and contributing to high‑impact publications. The position is a grant‑funded, one‑year fixed‑term role with a hybrid work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct data analysis using statistical programming with a focus on accuracy and reproducibility

Address missing data using imputation methods and other advanced statistical techniques

Apply theoretical knowledge and appropriate statistical tools to solve complex problems

Develop and implement statistical protocols for quality control

Summarize and communicate findings orally and in written form

Contribute to the preparation of papers for publication

Support the development of statistical plans and power analysis for proposal development

Required Qualifications

PhD in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or another quantitative social science field

Proficiency in R

Expertise in missing data imputation

Experience working with large‑scale observational cohort studies or surveys

Familiarity with regression modeling, survival analysis, and longitudinal data analysis

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting findings

Demonstrated research skills, preferably with peer‑reviewed publications

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in Stata and Mplus

Experience in item response theory or confirmatory factor analysis

Prior experience designing and leading complex simulation analysis to estimate statistical power for complex analyses and answer empirical methodological questions

A minimum of 3 years of experience after completion of a PhD

Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $140,000 – $190,000 annually, with additional benefits as per USC policy. This is a grant‑funded position.
