
Asphalt Plant Superintendent

The Asphalt Plant Superintendent is ultimately responsible for meeting the needs of the plant’s internal and external customers by ensuring the asphalt is delivered timely and within specification. This position is responsible for production records, plant performance, plant employees and plant materials. The Asphalt Plant Superintendent will ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations, environmental policies and regulations, and contract requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead plant staff to operate in a safe and productive manner.
Direct day-to-day asphalt plant operations.
Communicate plant needs with Quality Control, Materials Coordinator, Crushing Superintendent and General Manager.
Hire, supervise, schedule, and train asphalt plant staff at all facilities.
Monitor production efficiencies of asphalt plants and manage plant employee hours.
Ensure routine reporting of information from responsible sites (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).
Work with accountants on monthly profit/loss and job cost reporting.
Coordinate asphalt and aggregate delivery to asphalt plants.
Assist in asphalt contract utilization to ensure the best economics and contract requirements are met.
Assist in planning, development and management of permanent and temporary plant sites.
Assist in analysis of asphalt plant condition, needed repairs and yearly maintenance.
Recommend measures to improve production methods and equipment performance.
Ensure asphalt plants are maintained and repaired to meet production needs.
Assist in enforcement of all Company Policies and Procedures.
Other Requirements
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, customers and the general public at all times.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health and Safety Manual.
Ensure the project meets or exceeds the QC/QA goals.
Qualification Requirements
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Strong background in Asphalt Plant Management.
Experience with an E-Maintenance system a plus.
Work Requirements
Must be 18 years in age or older.
Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten-key adding machine, printers, etc.
Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications.
Ability to analyze issues independently.
Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
