Science Writer (aHEO)
Position: Science Writer reporting to the Communications Publications Editorial Manager at The City College of New York.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of written material on topics including students, alumni, faculty, campus facilities, academic programs, research and events.

Engage in all aspects of the writing process with attention to detail, including research, writing, proofreading, and editing.

Research and assist in writing news releases, brochures, profiles, announcements, e‑news stories, and other materials as needed.

Create material for print, website, and presentation formats.

Craft messages for donors and potential donors at every stage of the philanthropy experience: cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.

Translate complex scientific information into clear, vibrant lay language.

Prepare proposals and stewardship reports on scientific research, descriptions of giving opportunities, and other fundraising-related correspondence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with media relations and ability to pitch to external media.

Specialize in engaging scientific communities; strong ability to analyze scientific data, evaluate research outcomes and applications, and communicate to both lay and scientific readers.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $84,815 - $89,506. Salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY is implementing salary schedule increases; eligible employees will receive a 3.5% adjustment effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the PSC‑CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
