Position Details
The Science Writer will report to the Communications Publications Editorial Manager at The City College of New York. Duties include:

Assist in preparation of written material on topics such as students, alumni, faculty, campus facilities, academic programs, research and events.

Engage in all aspects of the writing process with close attention to detail—including research, writing, proofreading, and editing.

Research and assist in writing news releases, brochures, profiles, announcements, e-news stories and other materials as needed.

Create material for use in print, websites, and presentations.

Craft messages for donors and potential donors at all stages of the philanthropy experience (cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation).

Translate complex scientific information into clear, vibrant lay language.

Prepare proposals, stewardship reports, and other fundraising-related correspondence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (required).

Preferred: Experience with media relations and ability to pitch to external media.

Preferred: Specialize in engaging scientific communities; strong ability to analyze scientific data, evaluate research outcomes and applications, and communicate to both lay and scientific readers.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $84,815 – $89,506, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include health plans, retirement/pension benefits, savings plans, tuition waivers for CUNY graduate study, generous paid time off, and access to campus programs.
