Summary
Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. This position requires patient care.
Essential Functions
Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
Helps patients with basic hygiene tasks, including bathing, dressing, using the toilet if needed, and feeding.
Assists with turning and repositioning patients in bed and helping them move between bed and wheelchair if used.
Listens to any health concerns patients may have and reports those concerns to nurses.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – preferred
Certified Medical Assistant – National Certification – preferred
Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (Massachusetts) – preferred
Nursing Assistant (LNA – New Hampshire) – preferred
Experience
1–2 years experience working in patient care/elder care preferred. Experience in lieu of a degree is not acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient/customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
Physical Requirements
Physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds and provide assistance with bed and wheelchair transfer, as well as perform basic hygiene tasks.
