Mental Health Technician (MHT) - Full Time

Located in Danville, Virginia, The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. The Hughes Center provides private, community-based educational services and uses a multidisciplinary team approach to provide comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment and educational interventions with the aim of increasing each youth's functional independence. The team works to address medical conditions and challenging behaviors associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and to help residents apply learned skills in new environments and settings.

We are looking for an attentive, knowledgeable, flexible, dependable, and self-motivated individual to fulfill the role of

Mental Health Technician (MHT)

at our

Danville RTF

location. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package and generous paid time off.

The MHT will assist in the direct care and management of children, adolescents, and young adult residents as prescribed by the physician and treatment team. The MHT will provide supervision, safety, and crisis management for the resident population, as well as complete documentation of resident behavior and participation in programming. The selected candidate will adhere to scheduled activities, role model positive and mature behaviors, and utilize positive behavioral strategies to minimize resident crisis and maximize success. This position may also require personal care support for individuals with enhanced needs, particularly in the domain of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

We try to accommodate shift preference; however, not all shifts are available at all times.

1st Shift:

7:00am-3:00pm

2nd Shift:

3:00pm-11:00pm

3rd Shift:

11:00pm-7:00am

Job Description & Essential Duties

Provide daily living skills direction, examples, and demonstration to residents at different levels of ability

Provide positive and appropriate intervention, limit-setting, response, problem-solving, and guidance when needed

Provide guidance to residents in the development of acceptable habits and attitudes by consistently and fairly implementing the behavioral program, and emphasizing good choices and positive interactions

Ensure all living and working areas are clean and sanitary for the residents and the next shift; ensure all living areas and work areas meet standards of Virginia State Regulations at all times

Assist the teacher in providing instructions and training in classrooms

Provide effective, accurate, and legible documentation in a timely fashion

Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and follow-through with residential treatment plans and interventions

Respond to residents in a caring, mature manner while maintaining professional boundaries with both residents and staff

Serve as a role model for residents

Respond to crisis situations and assist in management of aggressive behavior

Qualifications
Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

Must be at least

21 years of age

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field of study preferred

Hold a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Experience working with individuals with special needs preferred

Other Requirements

Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Effectively use the full range of body motion – sit, bend, kneel or stand for more than an hour if needed

Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and support the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives

Successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training

Effectively perform facility-approved First Aid and CPR techniques

Able to understand and demonstrate therapeutic boundaries

Willing to be a team player and offer valuable insight to the team

Able to effectively communicate both verbally and via written documentation

Able to rotate shifts and units as necessary

Pay is hourly (bi-weekly) and commensurate with education and experience.
