Overview
The Paramedic responds to emergency and non-emergency ambulance requests. Performs assigned daily and weekly duties, including cleaning of ambulances and medi-vans, to complete during work hours. Provides directions and leadership to EMTs on calls that require Advanced Life Support.
Responsibilities
Respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured.
Check and monitor ambulance readiness.
Clean ambulances, utility vehicles, and crews’ quarters daily.
Clearly communicate crew and vehicle position at all times.
Provide direction to EMTs during ambulance calls.
Transport patients in a wheelchair van when needed.
Manage care of patients during transport to the hospital, including airway management (IV, IO, IM, SQ, IN), intubation of adult and pediatric patients, and airway management during transport.
Assist in childbirth out of the hospital and manage care of mother and baby.
Qualifications
Licensed Paramedic – Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Hazardous Materials Awareness (HazMat) – FEMA, within 6 months.
Introduction to Emergency Response to Terrorism (ERT) – FEMA, within 6 months.
