GENERAL SUMMARY
Producing machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR SKILLS
Written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of basic shop mathematics
Experience in heavy structural fabrication
Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and have cutting torch experience.
Proficient in effective operation of welding equipment
DUTIES
Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, plans, materials, specifications, and machine parameters. Having machinist experience is a plus.
Configure mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting tool registers, calculating requirements, including basic math
Load machine with work pieces
Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces
Maintain specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and ownership of equipment.
Meets production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricator’s, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and Procedures
Maintain orderly and clean work area
Attend all required safety meetings
Inspect equipment each day to ensure it meets safety standards
Must inspect tools daily before each use, to include extension cords
Use hand and power tools (when required) safely at all times, with correct guards in place.
Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks
Wear specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
Wear proper work clothing.
Respirators when welding harmful metals or when ventilation is not adequate
Steel/hard toe boots
Hearing protection
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
In order to do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary:
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment or materials 50 lbs. or less
Ability to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouching
Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, to include cold, heat, and humidity
Wage: Depends on experience
Position requires pre-employment drug screening and background check
