Job Description
The overall objective of the Fitter/Welder Foreman position is to lead a team of craftsmen that engage in all activities concerned with the welding and fitting of sheet metal structures, and ensure that jobs are completed and shipped as scheduled while meeting our quality standards. Consistent and accurate modeling and representing of the Mission Critical Group brand, mission, vision, values and organizational strategy are essential to achieving the goals of the organization.

Accountabilities

Increase operational excellence by collaborating with the Production Manager to allocate the right amount of resources (manpower, equipment and materials) to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Support the effort of being a best‑in‑class manufacturer by ensuring all work performed is done in accordance with quality and safety procedures, and compliant with company rules and regulations.

Supervise and monitor skilled labor and work crews engaged in all activities concerned with the welding and fitting aspects of the project.

Influence productivity by performing tasks as necessary to complete the welding and fitting assigned for each project, such as:

Requisitioning appropriate equipment to ensure no disruptions with the schedule.

Maintain welding and fitter equipment and ensuring that all materials and equipment are stored and handled safely.

Lead and supervise the performance of all work in the manufacturing welding and fitting areas and ensure work is accomplished per vendor instructions and client specifications.

Follow policies, procedures and work practices, and developing improvements where necessary.

Strengthen interdepartmental communication by being the point of contact regarding welding and fitting aspects of each project.

Coordinate the teams’ activities with all other foremen and project teams, and ensuring the optimum utilization of available work.

Communicate pending issues with project coordinators.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

6+ years in a manufacturing facility, preferably in a ‘fabrication shop’ or similar manufacturing environment, with a focus on process improvement. 3 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role.

Intrapersonal Skills: Self‑motivated and able to identify, examine, and resolve issues independently from others. Hold a strong regard for guidelines, procedures and integrity.

Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other tech.

Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Tools include: torches, torch tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders.

Management of Personnel Resources: Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.

Welding and Fitting Techniques: Considerable knowledge of welding symbols and diagrams, along with the ability to read blueprints, and/or other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts. Familiar with a variety of welder concepts, practices, and procedures.

Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming such as Microsoft Office Business Suite; knowledge of accounting software.

Verbal & Written Communication Skills: This position requires basic skills (Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.)

Supervisory Requirements

Directly manages, coaches, and develops a team of welders/fitters.

Responsible for workload prioritization, performance management, and team development.

Preferred

Certification in continuous improvement methods, such as an ASQ certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma.

Experience in industrial markets and/or shipbuilding.

Education

High School Diploma/GED required.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a FLSA non‑exempt position paid on an hourly basis. Overtime may be required based on production demands, including extended shifts, weekends or holidays.

This role is based on the production floor. The position requires standing for extended periods, working around machinery, and adherence to all safety and compliance standards.

Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.

Manual Dexterity: Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to fifty (50) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.

Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
