Animal Laboratory Technician
University of Southern California, Department of Animal Resources seeks a reliable, dependable, self‑motivated and responsible individual to ensure optimal animal care for all animals housed at the university for biomedical research and teaching.
Responsibilities and Duties
Ensure animals receive care in accordance with state and federal regulations to promote physical and psychological well‑being.
Distribute food and water; ensure supplies are free from contamination.
Provide environmental enrichment for animals, including exercise for larger animals as needed.
Perform humane euthanasia as needed for colony maintenance, following established protocols.
Evaluate animals for health and welfare daily; communicate problems to veterinary staff and the Principal Investigator.
Perform routine cleaning of animal cages and care equipment; maintain and clean animal housing facilities.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of cages, equipment, and facilities; keep inventory of storeroom supplies.
Maintain paper and computerized animal records, cleaning and sanitation logs, environmental conditions, and equipment use and maintenance.
Assist veterinarians and Principal Investigators with handling animals during procedures.
Minimum Field of Expertise
Minimum Education: High school or equivalent; combined education/experience may substitute for minimum education.
Minimum Experience: 1 year; combined education/experience may substitute for minimum experience.
Desirable Qualifications
Preferred Education: Associate Degree.
Preferred Experience: 2 years.
Preferred Field of Expertise: Assistant ALT Certification with experience in a veterinary hospital kennel or animal research laboratory.
Skills: Animal Handling.
Other Information
Hourly rate: $21.89.
