Animal Care Technician

The Animal Care Technician is in the process of acquiring fundamental skills necessary to care for and support study animals. Responsibilities include attending to animal husbandry needs, handling and restraining animals, maintaining their housing, executing feeding procedures, collecting data, and observing animals for health status and body weight measurements.
Responsibilities

Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals through gentle and positive human-animal interactions.
Perform basic departmental skills, including animal handling, restraint, housing maintenance, feeding procedures, data collection, and health status observations.
Collect, document, review, and verify data using forms or electronic data capture systems.
Review documentation of performed functions for quality control purposes.
Use and maintain various instrumentation and equipment.
Clean and sanitize animal cages and related environmental items.
Perform daily routine maintenance checks on automated cage wash machines.
Prepare appropriate housing for the receipt of new animals and assist with receiving animals.
Report equipment repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
Sanitize floors, walls, and other surfaces in the cage wash and laboratory areas.
Maintain a clean and organized cage wash area.
Manage storage area in an organized manner.
Complete technical animal care duties, such as changing liners and sanitizing animal room walls and floors.
Receive, store, and distribute animal husbandry supplies.
Perform limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments as appropriate.
Prepare environmental enrichment items, both edible and durable.
Operate basic lab equipment and perform routine maintenance as needed.
Prepare study and colony supplies as required.

High School diploma or General Education Degree preferred
Ability to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and extra shifts with short notice
Capability to work under specific time constraints
Work Environment

The position offers a comprehensive four-week training period with a dedicated trainer. Work schedules are flexible, with start times between 6 am and 9 am, and include the possibility of working a weekend day. The facility provides scrubs and shoes for employees.

This is a Contract position based out of Stilwell, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
