The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long‑term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high‑quality treatment and care is delivered.
Salary
$51.72 - $82.76 hourly
$107,584 - $172,135 annually

Position Overview
The LTC Nurse Manager helps ensure that all residents receive high quality care and treatment. The nurse manager supervises the nurses and provides direction to nurses and line staff, ensuring highest standards of care are met in accordance with the Joint Commission and state licensing and certification requirements. The manager conducts regular supervisory meetings, assures that all staff on assigned units maintain mandatory competencies, reviews unit reports, and implements plans of action. The manager coordinates staff assignments based on resident needs and staff capabilities, oversees the monitoring and implementation of treatment plans, ensures documentation of patient progress, advocates for patients, evaluates effectiveness of the treatment program, and communicates with the team.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise nurses and CNAs.
Participate in morning meetings to provide leadership and guidance for any issues that arise.
Round on the units and interact with the residents and staff.
Participate in care planning and monitoring.
Participate in CMS and Joint Commission surveys – help complete plans of correction and ongoing monitoring as necessary.
Meet with staff regarding issues and assignments based on resident needs and staff capabilities.
Advocate for patients by communicating progress, difficulties with treatment plans, and other concerns to the rest of the treatment team.
Ideal Candidate
Experience working in skilled/long‑term care facilities.
Experience supervising nurses and CNAs.
Experience working on multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with CMS and Joint Commission surveys.
Strong leadership skills to provide guidance and support for large teams.
Ability to prioritize tasks and identify needs independently and in coordination with the leadership team.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico, and two (2) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.

Office‑like setting with some time spent interacting with the residents. May be exposed to residents with dementia or other diagnoses that may lead to unpredictable behavior.
