Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Supervisors / Office Managers and other leaders and are supported through the WellStar Clinical Champion Forum. The framework for practice is steered by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5‑Star Nursing, and evidence based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence based practice, analytical and critical thinking, and ensuring that care is individualized.

Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population specific characteristics (age, gender, disease, etc.) and adapt service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.

Always partner with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching) and keep patients and their families updated, making their goals the focus of the plan of care.

Practice using current clinical practice standards.

Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes, but is not limited to, diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds, case review, etc.), completion of timely documentation and promotion of a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.

Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and by promoting the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.

Participate and support performance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders, research, and research utilization to promote safe, quality patient care. Initiate and/or lead activities, promote inter/intra‑disciplinary processes, and actively support participation in the Clinical Champion Forum at the Medical Group level.

Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, population‑specific education.

Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure a current and future qualified workforce; model professional nursing practice and create a healthy work environment.

Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research and performance improvement in nursing. Participate in activities such as value analysis as part of the decision‑making process in evaluating patient care products.

Uphold all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements and standards, ensuring alignment with goals such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes.

Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice, consult appropriate experts and use appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.

Proactively plan for the care of patients across the care continuum while giving direct patient care.

Participate in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes.

Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.

Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education
Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing, or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

Registered Nurse – Single State (RN‑Reg) or Multi‑state Compact (RN‑Compact)

BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor

Additional License(s) and Certification(s)
Current active license as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia and a current BLS card from the American Heart Association prior to hire date. ACLS/PALS may be required in some practice areas.

Required Minimum Experience
Experience with direct patient care. Preferred additional specialty experience may be required.

Required Minimum Skills

Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and possess basic computer skills.

Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills.

Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment and respond to emergencies in a decisive, composed, and respectful manner.
