NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team of medical professionals in Wetumpka, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals currently incarcerated in the Julia Tutwiler Facility.

As a Correctional Registered Nurse (RN), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. You will perform physical assessments, administer medications, manage chronic illnesses, and respond to emergencies. This unique position allows you to make a difference among a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.

Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.

Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.

Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.

Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.

Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.

Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and healthcare professionals.

Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.

Qualifications

Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Alabama.

Possesses an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).

Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.

Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and comply with facility policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical capabilities: ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR, with good balance and endurance.
