Overview
Registered Nurse – This posting is open exclusively to current Alabama Department of Corrections (AL DOC) incumbent employees. NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team of medical professionals in Atmore, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals who are currently incarcerated in the William C. Holman Correctional Facility. As a Correctional Registered Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to residents in a controlled environment. Your duties include performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies.
Responsibilities
Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.
Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with officers and healthcare professionals to ensure safety and well‑being of patients.
Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.
Qualifications
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications
Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in Alabama.
Active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health‑care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health‑care services.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
Maintains confidentiality of proprietary and/or confidential information and complies with facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Pass facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities
Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
