NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse (PRN) to join our team of medical professionals in Atmore, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility.
As a Correctional Registered Nurse (RN), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.
Responsibilities
Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories.
Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols, working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safety and well‑being of patients.
Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report any relevant information.
Qualifications
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications
Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state of Alabama.
Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Able to work independently and in a team.
Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
Must maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all facility correctional healthcare policies and legal requirements.
Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities
Must stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
