Registered Nurse (RN) – Correctional (Current AL DOC employees only)

Overview
NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse to join our team of medical professionals in Camden, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals currently incarcerated in the Camden Community Work Center. As a Correctional Registered Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to residents in a controlled environment. Your duties will include performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities

Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.

Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.

Provide direct patient care, triage, assess needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.

Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.

Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.

Educate patients on preventive care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.

Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure safety and well‑being of patients.

Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.

Qualifications

Hold a current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alabama.

Possess an active BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred).

Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health‑care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health‑care services.

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Flexible schedule and availability for overtime when needed.

Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance‑abuse issues.

Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all facility policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical Capabilities
Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
