Preconstruction Manager Position
The Preconstruction Manager is responsible for the commercial preconstruction process from initial opportunity through proposal submission, serving as the RedGuard’s technical authority during the pre-award phase. This role evaluates project documents, defines scope, and ensures code compliance to deliver accurate and competitive proposals. Working closely with Sales, Estimating, Operations, Design and external stakeholders – including General Contractors, developers, architects, engineering firms and Owner Representatives – the Preconstruction Manager ensures all proposed solutions are technically sound, commercially viable and fully aligned with applicable building codes and regulatory standards. This position protects RedGuard from risk, safeguards its reputation for quality and compliance, and drives profitable growth through disciplined, technically defensible preconstruction practices.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary technical authority during the preconstruction phase, providing expertise to ensure all Custom Projects meet customer expectations, code requirements, and RedGuard standards.
Review and interpret customer specifications, drawings, and RFQs to evaluate scope feasibility, compliance requirements, and areas needing clarification or exception.
Collaborate with Estimating, Sales, and Leadership teams to align cost models, technical requirements, and risk assessments with overall proposal strategy.
Validate and redline proposals prior to submission to ensure accuracy, alignment with customer requirements, and adherence to applicable codes and documented assumptions.
Participate in technical discovery calls, pre-bid meetings, and clarification sessions with customers, general contractors, EPCs, and Owner Representatives to resolve design or specification questions.
Partner with Engineering and Drafting teams to confirm that proposed solutions meet structural, electrical, mechanical, environmental, and life-safety standards, including RedGuard’s proprietary blast and ballistic design criteria.
Support post-award handoff and process improvement efforts, ensuring accurate scope execution and contributing to increased proposal accuracy, speed, and departmental alignment.
Maintain current knowledge of U.S. and international building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, NEC, UL, seismic, wind, etc.) while upholding RedGuard’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Science, or related technical field.
5+ years of experience in commercial construction, modular, industrial, or engineered-to-order project environments.
Strong working knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, NEC, UL, etc.).
Demonstrated experience leading or supporting full bid lifecycle activities including scope review, subcontractor coordination, cost development, and proposal preparation.
Experience with commercial vertical construction projects involving multi-trade coordination (structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical).
Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and submittal requirements.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to quickly identify risks or misalignments.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly explain technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong organizational discipline, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple complex opportunities simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to comfortably view and interpret AutoCAD or Revit drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience collaborating directly with GCs, EPCs, or Owner Representatives during preconstruction.
Exposure to CRM and/or ERP systems (e.g., HubSpot, Odoo).
Experience developing or reviewing technical proposals or bid packages.
