QCS Field Service Technician - Part-Time

Position reports to:

Service Center Manager, PAPI Upper Midwe .

Your Role and Responsibilities

Maintain quality control hardware and software (cleaning debris from sensors, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues with the frame and sensor package, troubleshooting the computer system and HMI/control software, and maintaining the working state of the entire ABB quality control solution).

Resolve customer service‑related issues while fostering customer relationships and working to solve technical problems on‑site. Communicate directly with plant operators, plant management, 3rd‑party vendors, and other ABB personnel to support service operations.

Rotational on‑call for 24‑hour emergency support service requests.

Accurately document the work that is performed for periodic preventive maintenance and intermittent corrective maintenance tasks.

Play an active role in various projects such as upgrades, new installations, or new functionality for customers. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments.

Apply safety rules and safe practices, as well as environmental responsibilities during all service activities.

Lead Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities at customer sites and report unsafe practices and incidents to ensure a safe working environment.

Identify new service business opportunities in close cooperation with customers and ABB teams.

Coach technicians and engineers, supervise complex site activities, and develop, mentor, and provide technical guidance to colleagues. Act as a trainer when needed, for both team members and customers.

Qualifications for the Role

Associate’s degree and 2+ years of electrical/electronics, instrumentation or process control related experience required; OR HS diploma/GED and 4+ years of related experience required.

Ability to use electrical test equipment such as voltmeters or multi‑meters.

Mechanical/Electrical aptitude including a basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical safety.

Ability to read electrical drawings and troubleshoot electrical systems; diagnosis of malfunctioning electrical systems up to 240 VAC/870 VDC and prevention using electrical test equipment; identify voltage systems above the level of 240 VAC/870 VDC.

Comfortable using basic hand tools.

Basic understanding of the paper‑making process and process control preferred.

Exposure to DCS programming and troubleshooting is beneficial.

Travel up to 15% for training and assisting other sites as needed.
