RVNAhealth is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented
Community Health and Outreach Intern
to support our Community Health Department, Nurse‑Family Partnership (NFP) program, and Marketing & Business Development efforts. This internship offers hands‑on experience in public health operations, community engagement, and healthcare program coordination while making a meaningful impact in the community.
Hours : 20 hours per week
Duration : June - October 2026
Location : Ridgefield, CT office + field‑based community events in Fairfield County, Lower Litchfield County and Waterbury, CT.
Compensation : Paid Internship ($17.00/hr)
Training will be provided. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support community events.
Key Responsibilities
Nurse‑Family Partnership (NFP) Program Support
Track and manage client referrals from various referral sources
Enter referrals into required systems and databases
Follow up with referral sources as needed
Ensure nurses have all necessary information to enroll clients
Manage client records, including:
Sending consent forms and uploading completed forms into systems
Updating contact information
Adding children upon birth
Discharging clients when appropriate
Send and receive requests for medical records
Generate reports to support program tracking and compliance
Work with volunteers to create enrollment materials, outreach tools, and educational resources
Community Health & Client Engagement
Identify and compile community resources for clients
Assist with texting and messaging important updates and information to clients
Support outreach and engagement through social media messaging
Clinic Programming Support
Return phone calls to the public interested in the community health services offered at our clinic
Ensure nurses have appropriate materials and files needed in order to perform duties
Provide data entry support as needed
Marketing, Outreach & Business Development
Attend and support community events, street fairs, presentations, and outreach activities on behalf of:
Nurse‑Family Partnership (NFP)
Wellness Academy
Business Development initiatives
Assist with marketing and outreach initiatives
Events can be located in a variety of places, including most of Fairfield County, Lower Litchfield County, and Waterbury
Qualifications
Interest in public health, community health, social work, health sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field
Ability to commit to the internship from June through October
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Comfortable engaging with the public and representing programs professionally
Enjoys community‑based work and outreach
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Comfortable using databases, spreadsheets, and basic office technology
Reliable and able to work independently and as part of a team
Driver's License and reliable transportation required
Spanish‑speaking preferred
Must be 18 years or older
It will be a condition of employment at RVNAhealth to submit to a pre‑employment physical/drug screen and background check, which may include the following: fingerprinting, verification of employment, paraprofessional certifications, designations or licenses, and educational background.
