Job Summary
Join the Department of Transportation, Centre County in a role that helps protect travelers across the state as an Equipment Operator. This position lets you work outdoors, use important equipment, and support the safety of everyone on the road.
Responsibilities
Snow Plowing: Clear snow and ice from roadways to maintain safe travel conditions.
Construction Support: Assist with work on construction sites using trucks, tools, and equipment.
Manual Labor: Carry out physical tasks such as lifting, digging, and moving materials.
Equipment Care: Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment.
Safety Awareness: Follow safety procedures to protect yourself, your team, and the traveling public.
Work Schedule and Other Information
Full‑time employment.
Work hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Schedule subject to change due to weather and seasonal requirements.
No telework.
Salary: Starting annual salary $44,988 (before taxes) for new employees.
Qualifications
Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program or equivalent.
Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School or equivalent combination.
Active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake (L) restriction removed.
Demonstrated operation of equipment with manual transmission.
Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate per FMCSA regulations.
Active certification issued by PennDOT in the operation of heavy trucks, loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment within the probationary period.
Active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously thereafter.
Additional Requirements
Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing per federal regulations.
Must obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific equipment.
Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
Conditional offer will require submission of criminal history reports.
Conditional offer will require a medical examination and drug screening.
