Position Summary
Responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment—including front‑end loaders, motor graders, excavators, dozers, scrapers, tractors, track hoes, skid pans, PD‑10s, and trenchers—to perform construction tasks such as land clearing, excavation, roadway grading, and underground utility work on heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects.

Responsibilities

Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.

Operate heavy equipment and demonstrate knowledge of equipment functions, running, navigating, problem detection, mechanical aptitude, and driving.

Build level and/or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces using the appropriate equipment.

Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth.

Gather and load dirt, stone, equipment, materials, and waste product from the jobsite onto trucks using various equipment.

Excavate trenches with proper slopes according to OSHA regulations.

Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.

Communicate clearly, listen, and understand information through spoken words and sentences to ensure full comprehension of job duties, safety regulations, and other situations requiring immediate response.

Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing, oiling machines, and fill out maintenance reports daily.

Travel to different job sites on limited notice as required.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Foreman.

Education and Experience Requirements

1–3 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum one year of experience in a heavy equipment operation role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project‑specific regulations.

Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors on‑site.

Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Perform basic arithmetic and measurement calculations for weight and volume.

Apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.

Use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.

Maintain physical strength and stamina to perform repetitive work continuously for several hour intervals.

Endure constant changes in weather and site conditions.

Operate in environments with exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.

Wear personal protective equipment such as safety‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.

Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.

Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall‑protection requirements.

Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize slight differences in shapes and shading.

Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings; keep good balance and coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

Maintain adequate vision and hearing, with or without correction.

Hours & Travel
This is a full‑time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week, with schedule subject to project requirements. Travel is required up to 90% of the time; the position requires presence directly on the project site with intermittent travel to the employee’s residence of record.
