
PARAMEDIC TRAINEE (EMT TO PARAMEDIC BRIDGE PROGRAM)

EMT to Paramedic Trainee Bridge Program
Cabarrus County Government EMS Department, in partnership with Rowan‑Cabarrus Community College (RCCC), offers an EMT to Paramedic Trainee Bridge Program designed to fast‑track EMTs toward full‑time paramedic positions. Participants receive classroom instruction, hands‑on clinical and field training, and on‑the‑job experience while earning full‑time pay and benefits.
Pay : $19.71 – $23.56 per hour (Pay Grade 14). Full‑time pay and benefits are provided throughout the program.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Current North Carolina or National EMT certification.
Enrollment in the RCCC Paramedic Academy Program.
Completion of all RCCC coursework and clinical components within the 9‑month commitment.
Application to Cabarrus County EMS employment and acceptance by both entities.
Completion of a 2‑year Post‑Certification Employment Agreement after paramedic credentialing.
Where indicated, possession of a valid driver’s license and all required certifications.
Responsibilities
During the bridge program, trainees will:
Attend scheduled classroom coursework and complete all assigned academic requirements.
Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls as an ambulance driver or attendant.
Provide emergency medical care in accordance with written guidelines and directives from physicians.
Determine extent of injury or illness and establish care priorities.
Transport persons to appropriate medical facilities.
Complete a variety of reports and maintain accurate patient records.
Keep ambulance, equipment, and supplies in clean and proper working order.
Attend additional training courses to update skills and improve proficiency.
Assist with station maintenance, housekeeping, and routine office tasks as needed.
Perform related tasks as required by the department.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidates should have thorough knowledge of emergency medical protocols, equipment, and county street systems; a solid grasp of anatomy and physiology; aptitude for diagnosing patient conditions and applying emergency care; and strong communication skills to interact with physicians, patients, families, and the public.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED.
North Carolina EMT credential.
Enrollment and successful completion of the RCCC Paramedic Academy Program.
Credentialing as a paramedic by the state of North Carolina within 6 months of completing the program.
Prior emergency medical experience is preferred.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license in North Carolina.
Completion and maintenance of all required certifications for the position.
Safety‑sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy.
Physical Requirements
The position requires the exertion of 100 lb of force occasionally, up to 75 lb of force frequently, and up to 20 lb of force constantly for moving objects. Physical tasks include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required. Hearing and visual acuity standards apply. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous environments may occur, and appropriate protective equipment is required.
