Quality Technician II
Job Description
The Quality Technician II supports quality assurance and control activities across Production, Engineering, Planning, and Supply Chain to ensure products meet internal quality management system (QMS) and customer requirements. This role develops inspection plans for complex products, supports First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR/FAI), trains quality control personnel on specialized inspection equipment, and participates in internal audits and nonconformance management. Working closely with Quality Engineering, the Quality Technician II helps drive root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement to reduce product defects and variation.

Responsibilities

Organize and execute daily priorities as directed by quality leadership and operate with minimal supervision while clearly communicating task status and results.

Set up and operate quality control inspection and test tools and equipment for incoming materials and components, in-process assemblies, and finished products.

Provide hands‑on training to quality control personnel in the proper use of inspection and test tools and equipment.

Develop, maintain, and continuously improve inspection plans and other quality control documentation for complex products and processes.

Learn and effectively use the SAP ERP system and Qlik reports to support quality‑related activities, including supplier and customer claims, MRB monitoring, quality control usage decisions and transactions, and non‑conforming material (NMR) dispositions.

Work with cross‑functional groups to identify root causes and implement corrective actions for trending nonconformities and defects.

Support the 8D and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) processes, including investigation, root cause analysis, problem‑solving, implementation of corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness.

Review non‑conforming material (NMR) reports, determine and document well‑justified dispositions in collaboration with stakeholders, and complete NMR documentation in a timely manner to close records.

Interface with all relevant departments to coordinate First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with internal QMS, AS9102, and customer requirements.

Review and incorporate customer and product‑specific requirements into FAI report preparation, compilation, and final approval.

Support the organization, tracking, and maintenance of all FAI information to enable on‑time delivery while meeting all related customer requirements.

Assist quality assurance and engineering during internal audits and in maintaining QMS documentation and compliance.

Support customer and supplier claims, returns (RMAs), and related quality documentation by providing accurate inspection data and analysis.

Interpret technical documents, drawings, and specifications to identify key characteristics and determine appropriate inspection methods to verify conformance.

Suggest and promote continuous improvement opportunities in quality processes and collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to implement these improvements.

Handle and inspect small, delicate parts carefully to prevent damage while maintaining accuracy and thoroughness during inspection.

Perform visual inspections and utilize tools such as microscopes and optical comparators to verify product quality and conformance.

Essential Skills

Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in quality functional roles, with at least 1 year in a Quality Assurance‑related role such as Quality Technician, Auditor, Specialist, or Engineer.

Experience working within a QMS‑certified manufacturing environment such as AS9100, ISO, IATF, or similar standards.

Experience or familiarity with quality audits in a manufacturing setting.

Hands‑on experience with quality assurance and quality inspection activities.

Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR), including AS9102 requirements.

Ability to analyze product conformance based on given requirements, drawings, and specifications.

Ability to work effectively with small, delicate parts without causing damage.

Proficiency in visual inspection techniques and use of visual inspection tools.

Experience using microscopes, optical comparators, and other precision inspection equipment.

Ability to perform quality checks on components, assemblies, and finished products.

Capability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams to review issues and solve problems using structured root cause analysis methods such as Ishikawa/fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys, and A3.

Ability to interpret and apply customer and product‑specific requirements in inspection and documentation.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to document findings, dispositions, and corrective actions clearly and accurately.

Ability to learn and utilize ERP and reporting systems such as SAP and Qlik to support quality activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with AS9102 and Net‑Inspect for First Article Inspection reporting is a strong plus.

Experience with fiber optic cabling, radio frequency (RF), and interconnect products is highly desirable.

Knowledge or experience with IPC standards such as IPC‑620 and IPC‑610 is a plus.

Familiarity with printed circuit boards (PCB) and related inspection requirements is beneficial.

Experience working in environments involving R&D and complex, high‑reliability products is advantageous.

Strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.

Comfort working in a structured QMS environment with documented procedures and records.

Work Environment
This is a full‑time, on‑site role on a Monday through Friday day shift, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The position is based in a manufacturing environment that supports complex and often R&D‑focused projects, including work on small and delicate parts. The work involves regular use of specialized inspection and test equipment such as microscopes, optical comparators, and other precision measurement tools, as well as frequent interaction with ERP and reporting systems like SAP and Qlik.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tualatin, OR.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 – $30.00/hr.
