At Vertex we tackle serious diseases and aim to change lives for the better. This 6‑month co‑op program is a 40‑hour per week, paid (USD $20.00–50.00 per hour) assignment for students pursuing an undergraduate or advanced degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or related fields.
As a PAT co‑op you will work with a diverse team of scientists to solve complex problems from continuous commercial drug product manufacturing. Your work will focus on building advanced multivariate models from spectroscopic data, conducting calibration blend experiments, and supporting automated chemometric model assessments.
Responsibilities
Design and execute experiments to formulate calibration blends using material‑sparing techniques and measure them spectroscopically.
Develop multivariate predictive models (e.g., PCA, PLS) to assess potency of drug product intermediates.
Generate and evaluate simulated calibration spectra, assessing their accuracy.
Support the progress of automated offline chemometric model assessments.
Report and present results to key stakeholders and leadership.
Qualifications
BS/MS/PhD student majoring in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering or closely related field.
Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills (Excel).
Knowledge of vibrational spectroscopies (IR, Raman, NIR).
Proficiency in data manipulation and large dataset organization.
Experience with multivariate data analysis and model building (PCA, PLS, SIMCA).
Experience with software tools such as Unscrambler or PLS Toolbox.
Experience with coding in MATLAB.
Legal authorization to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided.
Enrollment in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026.
Availability to work full‑time (40 hours per week) from July 2026 to December 2026.
