Position Summary
The Patient Access Representative performs efficient and orderly registration of all patients, serving as the primary liaison for patients receiving professional and hospital services at Phoenix Children’s. Duties include preparing admission forms, obtaining necessary documentation and signatures, confirming demographic information when patients or guarantors present for services, and collecting co‑pay and deductible amounts at the time of service. Some travel between sites may be required based on business needs of the department.

Position Duties

Arrive patients who present for professional and hospital services that have been pre‑registered and collect co‑pay and deductible amounts. Obtain all necessary signatures from the guarantor at the time of registration or arrival.

Accurately document all information in the appropriate fields and/or account notes. Maintain accuracy when entering demographic and insurance information in the system.

Courteously answer the telephone and answer all questions in a timely manner.

Identify and refer uninsured and underinsured patients to the Financial Counselor.

Inquire patient account system(s) to identify any previous unpaid liability in AMPFM/Misys.

Maintain a positive working relationship with patients/guarantors, insurance companies, government entities, clinical personnel, co‑workers and management to promote teamwork, cooperation and a positive public image for Phoenix Children’s.

Organize, prioritize, and monitor daily work activity to ensure that complete, accurate, and compliant registration has been performed in a timely manner.

Participate in a variety of unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels.

Perform registration in the appropriate HIS system, verify insurance coverage, obtain authorization for patients who present for professional and hospital services and have not been pre‑registered.

Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications
Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field.

Experience
Required: 1 year of related office or retail experience, including direct customer contact and service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required: Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience with AMPFM, Misys, or HIS platform.

Special Skills
Required: Effective verbal and written communication skills, professional demeanor, team player with a customer‑focused attitude.
Required: Knowledge of Medical Terminology and ICD‑9/CPT codes and an understanding of HIPAA privacy laws.

Preferred Special Skills

Ability to speak and write Spanish.

Ability to follow any payer or governmental requirements as required by the organization.

Additional Requirements
Required: Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
