Assistant Controller
CooperDouglas, El Segundo, CA, United States
CooperDouglas has partnered with a rapidly scaling, investor-backed manufacturing company building a best‑in‑class finance organization following multiple acquisitions. This is a high‑impact, visible opportunity to work directly with executive leadership to standardize, institutionalize, and elevate accounting across a multi‑entity platform. We’re seeking a Senior Manager of Technical Accounting and Integration who can operate with precision in complex M&A environments and take full ownership of post‑acquisition financial integration.
Key Responsibilities
Lead purchase accounting and valuation support, including ASC 805 applications, fair value analysis, and ongoing balance sheet adjustments
Own the preparation and refinement of opening and closing balance sheets, including detailed review of underlying assumptions and adjustments (not just high‑level fair value concepts)
Perform and document process walkthroughs across accounting cycles; design and implement SOPs and close templates
Drive full consolidation process and deliver meaningful flux analysis tied to operational drivers
Review and elevate work produced by internal and offshore teams across AP, fixed assets, and prepaids
Partner with leadership on working capital analysis and post‑acquisition adjustments
Serve as a key liaison for external auditors and lead audit readiness efforts
Draft technical accounting memos, policies, and financial statement footnotes from the ground up
What We’re Looking For
Big 4 CPA required (Audit or Advisory background)
7–10 years of experience, including hands‑on involvement in M&A transactions and integrations
Deep technical expertise in US GAAP, specifically ASC 805 (business combinations), ASC 842, and equity accounting (ASC 718)
Proven ability to independently construct and adjust opening/closing balance sheets with a clear understanding of underlying mechanics (e.g., purchase accounting adjustments, working capital true‑ups, valuation impacts—not just “fair value” at a surface level)
Experience performing detailed process walkthroughs (SOX‑style or similar) and building accounting infrastructure from scratch
Demonstrated ability to operate in high‑growth, ambiguous environments (startup or PE‑backed strongly preferred)
High visibility with executive leadership and investor
Compensation: $180,000-200,000 + bonus + equity
