
Maintenance Property Worker

Overview
The Maintenance / Property Worker will have specific responsibilities for the cleanliness, safety, and mechanical operations of the Salvation Army buildings located in Modesto and TSA vehicles. Buildings include the food warehouse, shelter building, administration building, and City Coordinator’s Quarters.
Duties and Responsibilities
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings
Maintain all equipment in working order. Inform the Business Administrator or City Coordinators of any specific problems or damages, and make repairs as needed
Execute minor repairs as directed by the City Coordinators or Business Administrator and advise of any serious problems
Operate forklift, electric pallet jack and other equipment necessary for loading, unloading and transporting pallets and other heavy items
Ensure all Corps vehicles are in good working order and condition. Execute minor repairs as directed by the Business Administrator or City Coordinators and notify them of any serious problems
Maintain an inspection quality kitchen and inspect all refrigerators to ensure that they are clean and free of stale food
Maintain inspections and updated inspection manuals for A/C units, fire extinguishers, fire control systems, and emergency lighting in all Modesto Salvation Army buildings
Review all mechanical and electrical equipment of the Corps and perform regular maintenance as may be required. Consult supervisor before any major work is performed. Any repairs requiring a purchase must be cleared first by either the Business Administrator or City Coordinators
Ensure that all storage closets and containers are maintained in an orderly, safe and secure manner at all times
Move, repair, modify and dispose of equipment and supplies as directed by the supervisor
Assist the Business Administrator or City Coordinators in establishing scheduled maintenance programs for painting, electrical and mechanical equipment. No major maintenance work will be done without the approval of the Business Administrator or City Coordinators
Report all safety and security deficiencies directly to the Business Administrator or City Coordinators
Coordinate cleaning needs of the building with the cleaning services provider as well as with trash removal service
On some occasions, be prepared to work overtime, or come in early as needed
Follow up and maintain work/repair orders to ensure completion
Other related duties as required
Education and Experience
California Driver’s License (Required) with a clean driving record
21 years of age (Required)
Experience in repairing and servicing buildings and equipment
Skills and Abilities
Ability to be organized and efficient
Ability to work well with supervisors, staff and other people
Ability to perform all duties accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner
Must be able to pass an in‑house driver education course
Self‑motivated, able to take initiative and able to motivate others
Committed to teamwork yet capable of working independently

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Equipment Used
Basic tools used in building maintenance: ladders, forklift, scissor lift, pallet jacks
