
Recreation Manager - Senior Center and Senior Programs - Full-tim

Overview
The Wheaton Park District (WPD) is seeking a dynamic Recreation Manager to lead our Senior Center (The Mary Lubko Center) and oversee a wide range of engaging programs and events for adults. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing high-quality recreational, social, and wellness opportunities that enhance the lives of our senior community. The ideal candidate is an organized, creative leader who excels in program planning, staff supervision, and community engagement. Strong communication skills and a passion for serving active adults are essential to this position.
Reporting Relationships: Chorus Accompanist, Chorus Director, Recreation Program Instructor, Customer Service Attendant, Travel Coordinator, Rental Attendant, MLC Trip Escort, Group Fitness Instructor, Volunteers.
Responsibilities
Maintain a master calendar of programs/events at the Mary Lubko Center and Memorial Park.
Oversee the overall appearance of the Mary Lubko Center and ensure equipment and supplies are in good working order.
Directly supervise extended travel and day-trip programs.
Directly supervise part-time staff and volunteers at the Mary Lubko Center.
Attend the worksite as required to produce exceptional results.
Directly supervise assigned recreation programs, special events, and program areas.
Assist in the development of long-range planning, goals and program forecasts.
Complete and carry out yearly budgets and department goals as directed by supervisor.
Establish communications and maintain good public relations within the community and with internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with the Marketing Division to solicit local and corporate sponsors to defray costs.
Write and organize quarterly newsletters.
Evaluate the effectiveness of all services under supervision and recommend modifications to the Superintendent of Recreation.
Prepare and/or direct the preparation of board summaries, monthly and quarterly reports, and periodic special reports.
Provide information for district program guides and websites.
Act as a representative/liaison to local clubs or affiliate groups as assigned.
Submit room requests to Scheduling Coordinator in a timely manner.
Review and monitor the Mary Lubko Center facility and recommend improvements.
Perform daily opening and closing procedures of the Mary Lubko Center.
Hire, train, manage, lead, coach, schedule, discipline, motivate, evaluate, provide quarterly feedback and recommend merit increases for assigned staff in accordance with Department of Labor laws and District policies.
Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment and deliver high-quality customer service to internal and external customers.
Follow Wheaton Park District policies and guidelines.
Support the VALUES (community, respect, equity, adventure, teamwork, and excellence) in daily activities.
Maintain safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, psychology, gerontology-oriented or closely related field. At least two (2) years of supervisory experience with at least three (3) years of experience in recreation-based programming. Experience in planning day and extended travel events is a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to lead, manage, and motivate staff. Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to multi-task and work calmly under pressure.
Certifications, Licenses, etc.
Must have and maintain: a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; CPR/AED Instructor certification or obtain within three (3) months of employment. CPRP (Certified Park and Recreation Professional) preferred.
Physical Demands
Frequently remain in a stationary position for long periods and use hands/arms (e.g., computer work). Occasional movement around the facility; ability to lift up to 25 lbs rarely. Must be able to ascend/descend stairs frequently; occasional walking on uneven ground.
Environmental Demands
Office environment with moderate noise and lighting. Rarely exposed to all weather conditions or to dirt, odors, dust, mold, cleaning chemicals, or wet/slippery floors.

Position Salary Range
Min $61,625; Mid $77,032; Max $92,438.
